Zero Emissions. Zero Excuses. Zero Time to Waste.

350 Petaluma Mission Statement

350 Petaluma is an all-volunteer, grassroots group inspired by 350.org, an international climate action organization. With a deep love for Petaluma and the planet, we organize locally to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, advocate for climate-safe policies, and help build a regenerative future that is socially just and economically fair.

A Brief History

Following a climate event hosted at WORK Petaluma, 350 Petaluma was founded in early 2018. We initially offered educational events featuring attendees of Al Gore’s Climate Reality leadership training as well as experts on topics such as carbon sequestration, heat pumps, and fossil fuel divestment. We also helped organize a contingent to attend the San Francisco Rise for Climate, Jobs and Justice march.

Later that year, a core group from 350 Petaluma began drafting a Climate Emergency Resolution (CER) for the City of Petaluma. Catalyzed by our CER work, individuals from other local organizations and businesses joined us in 2019 to form a group now known as Climate Action Petaluma (CAP). Together, we successfully mobilized the community, helping to achieve City approval of the CER—the first in the County—and creation of the Climate Action Commission, laying the groundwork for accelerated citywide climate action.

Over the past couple of years, members of 350 Petaluma have also worked to advance a variety of climate-safe policies and initiatives such as:

  • Joining NoGasHere to oppose a gas station proposed directly next to schools within a residential neighborhood on the east side of town.

  • Advocating for transit-oriented development (TOD) and bicycle-friendly streets.

  • Writing letters, speaking at City Council meetings, organizing a march, and collecting more than 1,000 signatures in opposition to the Corona Station housing development. Located at the site of Petaluma’s future—and second—SMART train station, this project failed to uphold the priorities of both our CER and General Plan.

350 Bay Area are hundreds of volunteers, supported by a small but mighty staff, working since 2012 to: 1) Raise awareness & urgency – the climate crisis is underway and we have time – but not a lot, 2) Mobilize to demand action at the speed & scale required to protect us all from the worst impacts, 3) Support the voices of young people calling for a livable planet, 4) Dig into policy options to get real emissions reductions actions passed.
